Mr. Tom Yeager is originally from Lucasville, Ohio. He left those comfortable confines in the Eighty’s to serve in the US Air Force. Tom served with pride and distinction for twenty-five years. The Air Force encouraged him to participate in a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) shortly before his retirement. It was at this TAP class that he was introduced to National Truck Drivers School BY Joe Curry. Joe is an enrollment representative for National. Joe and Tom talked awhile at TAP class. Tom realized that driving a big rig was something that appealed to him as a second career. Joe helped him with the enrollment process and the tuition assistance paperwork; and soon, Joe was here in North Florida learning the tools of the craft.

While at our 350 acre training facility, Tom learned all aspects of tractor-trailer operation. He did face some challenges when it came to shifting and backing up. The big rigs do not shift like a sports car and some new thinking and practice were in order for Tom. Some extra practice on the backing pad and Tom was ready for the “final” exam. The final was actually a road test by a licensed third party examiner. Tom did just fine and is now a proud holder of a class A commercial driver’s license.

Having a CDL is one thing; making money with it is another. Tom had several offers from prestigious trucking firms while in school. He decided that Roehl Transport had the best package for new drivers. Everett Roehl started this trucking company when he began operations in 1962 with a single truck. From the single truck Everett operated, Roehl has grown to over 1700 employees, with a fleet of over 1,600 Tractors and 3,500 Trailers. 95% of the loads originate and terminate in the eastern 37 states (east of the Rockies). Tom was particularly attracted to the “Work 7, Home 7” program they offer their drivers.

Tom served and defended us fro 25 years in the Air Force. He continues to serve us now in another capacity. Weather you know it or not, we still need Tom. It is said “If you got it, a truck brought it.” Drivers like Tom bring it!

We are proud of Tom for all his accomplishments. We humbly award him Graduate of the Month for May 2006.
